WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Splash is a delightful comedy starring Tom Hanks as Allen Bauer, a workaholic New Yorker who never thought he’d meet the right woman. He was only half wrong. When he rescues a beautiful young “woman,” he falls madly in love with the girl (Hannah) who is actually a mermaid. Madison is hesitant to reveal her secret to Allen, but her strange habits—like eating a lobster, shell and all—make him somewhat suspicious. When she is kidnapped by someone (Levy) who wants the world to know who, or what, Madison really is, Allen and his wacky brother, Freddie (Candy) set out to save her. Hanks and Hannah cause quite a “spash” in this fun story.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is matted at 1.85:1. Colors are vivid but inconsistent with some scenes too dark and exhibiting poor shadow detail. Images are sharp and detailed and there is virtually no noise or artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is poorly mixed and fidelity is wanting, often distorted and always compressed, with no bass extension and virtually no surround presence.
