WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on Stephen King’s novella, “The Body,” Wheaton, Phoenix, Feldman and O’Connell bring their characters of the film to life. The story is narrated by Dreyfuss, whose character, now grown-up and a writer, is one of the boys in the story. Four troubled and curious twelve year-old boys from a small Oregon town set out in 1959 on a quest along the train tracks to find the body of a missing teenager. The film was nominated for an Oscar® for Best Screenplay and was the sleeper hit of 1986.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is matted at 1.85:1. The image quality is mediocre with inconsistent sharpness and detail and slight, but apparent noise, particularly in the dark scenes. The outdoors setting is beautifully photographed and naturally rendered. Fleshtones and colors appear natural as well, and shadow detail is excellent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished mono and except for the narration, dialogue sounds unnatural and stressed.
