WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Steve Martin is the inexplicable, incorrigible, invincible Sgt. Bilko, leader of the Army’s Fort Baxter motor pool—the sorriest group of soldiers ever to enlist in the armed forces. Bilko is cruising along the motor pool highway to Easy Street until an old nemesis (the late Phil Hartman) arrives at Fort Baxter to settle a 15-year old score with Bilko.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is framed at 2.35:1, exhibiting inconsistent color fidelity and fleshtones with colors subdued in some scenes, while fully saturated in others. Sharpness and detail is wanting and there is slight noise, but no artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has a distinctively “manufactured” sound quality with forward ADR-produced dialogue. The “oldies” music score is recorded with an expansive soundstage that images well. Surround envelopment is often aggressive, but bass extension could have been deeper for a better sound foundation.
