WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
This is a blissfully light comedy about two rival golf pros: Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy (Costner) and the slick PGA star David Simms (Johnson), with the beautiful Dr. Molly Griswold (Russo) stuck in the middle. From the day Molly walks onto Roy’s range for lessons in a tiny West Texas town, there is something about her big-city sparkle that makes his small-time spirit determined to steal her heart—even if she is Simms’ girlfriend. So he heads to the U.S. Open with little more than his golf clubs to win the most difficult tournament—and the most beautiful woman—in the pro-golfing world.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is framed at 2.42:1 and exhibits warm colors, natural fleshtones and deep solid blacks. The picture is sharp and detailed with excellent contrast and shadow detail. Slight noise and minor artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is conventional with ADR-produced dialogue that is distinctively “manufactured” sounding with poor spatial integration throughout. The music score is terrific with a wide soundstage and excellent imaging. Surround is generally subtle and occasionally aggressive provided by the ambiant sound effects and music score.
