WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Seven Hills Of Rome and For The First Time are two delightful musical love stories that star one of the world’s most beloved tenors, Mario Lanza. The LaserDiscs themselves are incorrectly labeled, however, with the first disc, Seven Hills Of Rome labeled as For The First Time and vice versa. Based on a story by Giuseppe Amato, Seven Hills Of Rome stars Mario Lanza as Marc Revere, a popular American television singer who sets out for Rome in search of his fickle fiancé Carol (Peggie Castle). On the train he befriends Rafaella (Marisa Allasio), a beautiful young girl without a ticket or a place to stay. Marc invites Rafaella to move in with him at his cousin Pepe’s (Renato Racsel), not realizing how hurt she would be when he meets up with Carol.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is framed at 2.35:1 and has inconsistent fleshtones and a dated color fidelity that is completely undersaturated. Images are soft, overall wanting in sharpness and detail, and contrast is poor. This problematic picture is overly bright with apparent noise and serious artifacts throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural that is compressed, distorted and poorly recorded.
