Story Synopsis:
On The Edge of a total emotional breakdown following the recent death of his father, 19-year-old Jonathan Breech (Murphy) decides to drive a stolen car off the edge of a cliff. He survives the accident and is sent to a mental institution for treatment, forced to wear pajamas which are several sizes too small for him, and finds counsel with Dr. Figure (Rea). While in the hospital, Jonathan finds a new outlook on life when he befriends with a toubled young man (Jackson), and falls in love with Rachel (Vessey). (Suzanne Hodges)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits a pleasing picture, with images that are crisp and nicely detailed, though backgrounds tend to appear a bit blurred. Colors can have a cold appearance, but are also vibrant, with natural fleshtones and deep blacks. Contrast and shadow delineation appear natural. The source element is revealing of a few artifacts and some film grain. Edge enhancement is a problem, though there are scenes without its distraction. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
The 5.1-channel audio presentations feature music that is mostly repurposed, yet also reserved in dimension. There is a predominant balance of the soundstage toward the screen channels. Other than the music, the audio is basically centered around the dialogue. Voices sound reasonably natural with fair consistency with the visuals. Atmospheric effects are generally very subtle in terms of their spatiality. The low-end with the music is quite satisfying, with the .1 LFE channel being a modest factor. The DTS
