Synopsis: “The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring” is the first part of an epic trilogy to tell J.R.R. Tolkien’s tale in its entirety, tackled by the capable director Peter Jackson. Thankfully, the film begins with a brief history of the rings...namely the ring that falls into the hands of a humble Hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Wood). The ring has the ability to enslave the world if it falls into the hands of any tainted inhabitant of Middle-earth. Frodo is commanded by the wizard Gandalf (McKellen) to cast the ring into the fires at Mount Doom in the dreadful land of Mordor, the evil site where it was created and the only place where it can be destroyed. Accompanying Frodo is a brave Fellowship, sworn to protect Frodo and the ring: three Hobbits (Astin, Boyd, and Monaghan), Gandalf, two human warriors (Mortensen and Bean), an elf archer (Bloom), and a Viking-like dwarf (Rhys-Davies). The quest is a dangerous one, with the Fellowship under constant pursuit by the evil forces who want possession of the ring. Despite the deadly obstacles that the Fellowship must face, Frodo has an additional fear: will anyone in the Fellowship betray him on his perilous journey? The movie nears three hours in length and ends with a tremendous void of what is to come...in part two: "The Two Towers." (Suzanne Hodges)

Synopsis: "The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers" is the middle film about Middle-earth in a wildly popular epic trilogy of good against evil, based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien. By the time the credits rolled at the end of "The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring," the fellowship was nowhere near their final destination, where Frodo (Wood) is to fulfill his quest of casting the evil ring of Mordor into the fires at Mount Doom. The fellowship had disbanded after their tremendous losses following Gandalf The Grey’s (McKellan) plunge into the pit at Khazad-dûm and Boromir’s (Bean) heroic death. Frodo and Sam (Astin) press on toward Mordor, joined by the visual effects marvel Gollum (Serkis) who has been given the task to guide them there. Across Middle-earth in search of Merry and Pippin (Monaghan and Boyd), Aragorn (Mortensen), Legolas (Bloom), and Gimli (Rhys-Davies) learn of the besieged kingdom of Rohan, whose King has fallen under the spell of the evil wizard Saruman The White (Lee). Yet, Gandalf emerges as Gandalf The White and encourages Aragorn to unite the people of Rohan with Gondor, to be the last remaining stronghold of human resistance. Meanwhile, Merry and Pippin have escaped their captors only to find unexpected allies in the ancient trees of a forest that Saruman has all but destroyed. Though separated, the fellowship still has strength to stand against the powerful force spreading from Saruman’s Orthanc Tower in Isengard and Sauron’s Mordor fortress at Barad-dûr. Yet, can Gollum and his passion for his “precious” be trusted to safely deliver the Hobbits to Mordor, despite feeling betrayed by Frodo? And will the rest of the fellowship survive the ensuing battles to save Middle-earth? (Suzanne Hodges)

Synopsis: Finishing what "The Fellowship Of The Rings" and "The Two Towers" started, "The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King" finalizes the epic tale of a hobbit’s journey to save Middle-earth from evil. "The Return Of The King" swept the 76th Academy Awards®, winning in every category in which it was nominated, including Best Picture (a feat in itself, being the first-ever film in the fantasy genre to win). As The Two Towers wrapped up, the dissociative creature Smeagol/Gollum (Serkis) had revealed his intent to betray Frodo (Wood) and Sam (Astin). As the three make their way toward Mordor, he leads them up the stairs of Cirith Ungol to a great and terrifying uncertainty. As Isildur’s true heir, Aragorn (Mortensen) ventures into the Paths Of The Dead to enlist the help of thousands of cursed souls who had not fulfilled their oath to fight against Sauron with Isildur. Along with Gandalf The White (McKellen), Gimli (Rhys-Davies), and Legolas (Bloom), Aragorn leads the last of the great men of Gondor and Rohan against the looming enemy forces. And as fate lays in the hands of a halfling from The Shire, the battle of good versus evil rages on. But you can be sure that, by the final (final!) end of the movie, everyone has hugged.
