Story Synopsis:
After being taken prisoner during World War II, Lt. Tommy Hart (Farrell), a second-year Harvard Law School student, is sent to a German POW camp. While there, a young black man, Lt. Lincoln Scott (Howard), is accused of murder, and Col. William McNamara (Willis) convinces the commandant (Iures) to allow the prisoners to hold their own trial. After Tommy agrees to defend Lt. Scott and begins his investigation, he finds that not all of his fellow prisoners are on the same side and that Col. McNamara is using the trial to cover up a former mission he still intends to carry out.
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced DVD image, framed at 2.35:1, exhibits a picture that is quite satisfying. The color scheme creates a cold atmosphere, with silvery blues and grays, and an overall desaturated appearance, which visually complements the harsh conditions at the POW camp. Images are sharp, with pleasing facial details and fabric textures. Viewed in a completely blackened room, the darkest scenes hold up nicely with good shadow delineation. Edge enhancement is especially noticed against the contrast of the snow or wintry sky, but otherwise the picture is quite clean. Minor pixelization is noticed, but nothing that is too obtrusive. (Suzanne Hodges)The DVD includes a modified 1.33:1 version (not reviewed) on the disc
