Story Synopsis:
Bree (Huffman), a transexual eagerly awaiting her final gender reassignment surgery, hits a bump in the road when she discovers she has a son, Toby (Zegers), who is currently in a New York City lockup, the result of a one-time encounter when she was Stan, and her therapist requires her to confront her past before she can proceed with her future. So, with this motivation, she flies east to retrieve Toby, who thinks she's just a good-hearted missionary, and convinces him to trek westward to Los Angeles. It is during this journey each discovers who they are, and what they may become. Transamerica earned Felicity Huffman a Golden Globe. (Jack Kelley)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD picture exhibits Super 16 originated images that are slightly gritty, but not uncommon for a low-budget indie like this. Colors are well balanced, with accurate fleshtones, rich hues, and deep blacks. Sharpness and details are adequate throughout, and contrast and shadow delineation are satisfying. While this picture does not have a slick, polished look, the visuals are suitable for the storytelling. Pixelization is limited. (Suzanne Hodges)
