Story Synopsis:
Based on the play by Alexandre Breffort and the music by Marguerite Monnot, Irma La Douce is an off-beat and hilarious comedy about a policeman and the prostitute he falls for. Shirley MacLaine stars as Irma La Douce, or Irma The Sweet, a witty prostitute in the Red Light district of Paris, who makes more money off her clients by making them feel sorry for her. The Somach of Paris
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture has nicely saturated hues and fleshtones, and deep, pure blacks. Images are sharp, with much better definition when compared to the LaserDisc (Issue 26). Unfortunately, there is an excessive amount of edge enhancement that distracts from an otherwise pleasing transfer. The source element is revealing of some film grain and artifacts. (Suzanne Hodges)
