| WSR Narrative Review |

Story Synopsis:
Art Bechstein (Foster) is a recent college grad and plans on spending his last summer sleepwalking through the exams that will send him far away to a job chosen for him by his gangster father (Nolte). But when Art meets the beautiful Jane Bellweather (Miller) and her wild boyfriend, Cleveland (Sarsgaard), Art's summer and life change forever. Based on the novel of the same name by Pulitzer Prize Winning author Michael Chabon. (Gary Reber)
Picture:
The 1080p AVC picture is mediocre in visual character, with poorly defined shadows and blacks that are often crushed. Colors are slightly filtered and a bit subdued. Fleshtones exhibit a slightly yellow hue and appear generally inaccurate. Resolution is generally soft as well. Overall, the picture is underachieving in terms of picture quality. (Gary Reber)
Sound:
The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is conventionally produced with spatially limited production sound and ADR dialogue, Surround envelopment is predominantly in the music score. The music is well recorded with a wide and deep soundstage and nicely delineated musical instrument timbres. While the music is the highlight of the film, the overall experience is undramatic and conventional sounding. (Gary Reber)
