WSR Narrative Review |
|
Story Synopsis:
There’s plenty of high decible gunfire explosions and other cacophony that accompanies covert U.S. military operations set in motion illegally by the President to eliminate South American drug smugglers.
LaserDisc Picture:
The 2.21:1 THX transfer is superb and utilized the Rank Cintel Mark III HD telecine to set a new standard of film-to-video transfer picture quality. The result is an outstanding achievement!
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The blockbuster is the first laserdisc title to be released in Dolby Surround® AC-3® Digital which requires a special player and processor to decode. But, as compared to the fine Dolby Surround mix, the 5.1 channel discrete soundfield delivers an enveloping and compelling surround ambience with exceptional clarity and dynamic range. Bass is deep, powerful and directional which calls attention to the requirement for full range reproduction in the primary LF, RF, LS and RS discrete channels. Unlike Dolby ProLogic® or with THX® processing, there is localized side-wall and back-wall imaging which resolves a coherent soundscape with matched reproducers. When you experience that sonic realism it will be clear that matrix mono surround is outmoded!
