WSR Narrative Review |
|
Story Synopsis:
Called the “greatest aerial spectacle,” Battle Of Britain tells the historic true story of the outnumbered British Royal Air Force who successfully fought off the overwhelmingly powerful German Luftwaffe at the beginning of World War II, saving England from invasion. With truly amazing aerial photography and victorious performances by Laurence Olivier, Michael Caine, Trevor Howard, Christopher Plummer, Ralph Richardson and Robert Shaw, this film tells a love story between men and their country and is a tribute to the courageous allied pilots who took part in the Battle of Britain.
LaserDisc Picture:
The Panavision® Scope aspect ratio is framed at 2.32:1, and subtitles are cut off at the bottom of widescreen monitors. The picture is inconsistent throughout exhibiting dated color fidelity, often undersaturated fleshtones and deep undefined blacks. Some scenes are overly bright and unnatural looking. The picture is wanting in sharpness and detail with good shadow detail and poor contrast. Slight noise and distracting artifacts are apparent throughout.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural with bass rumble and background hiss.
