Microdisplay TVs Outselling CRT And Plasma In Large-Screen Category

Texas Instruments (TI) at CEDIA today showcased DLPÆ 1080p TVs from HP, Mitsubishi, Samsung and Toshiba, which allow consumers to experience maximum-HD resolution with incredible clarity and razor-sharp images. 25 large-screen TV models featuring DLP 1080p technology are now shipping to retailers nationwide, ranging in screen sizes from 50"" to 73"". This breadth of product makes DLP technology the first large-screen 1080p TV technology to be offered in volume to consumers.This new product line-up comes at a time when DLP TVs and the entire microdisplay category are experiencing strong momentum. According to NPD, the microdisplay TV category has displaced the projection Cathode-Ray-Tube (CRT) TVs that have dominated the large screen category for many years. As of the first quarter of 2005, microdisplay TVs are now outselling projection CRT and flat-panel plasma TVs in the U.S. large screen (>40"") category. DLP technology is the number one panel supplier in the microdisplay category.The addition of DLP 1080p TVs complements the broad line-up of 720p (1280 x 720) high-definition DLP TVs that has experienced strong success in the market.
