Time To Write Your Congressman

23-Dec-05

Hollywood is at it again, so it's time to email you congressman. The issue is HR4569, a bill to mandate that all analog video recording devices (i.e. PCs, VCRs, Tivos, cable boxes, sat receivers, etc) comply with a broadcast flag to control your ability to copy or record a program. This is new and different from the previous broadcast flag issues with digital TV. This bill would actually allow Hollywood execs to limit your Tivo to timeshift a program no more than 90 minutes. It's amazing to me what money can buy in Washington! Here's a better explanation: http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/archives/004261.php Here's the easiest way to email you congressman: http://www.house.gov/writerep/ If you can't think of what to say, copy and paste this into the mail form: Just a quick note to object to HR4569, the ""Digital Transition Content Security Act of 2005"". This Anti-Consumer bill would severely trample my fair-use rights by placing limitations on my ability to watch television and movie programs whenever and however I want. Please do everything you can to stop this bill in it's tracks. Thank you.
