BG announced an important addition to their highly regarded PD Series of custom loudspeakers. The PD-6CS is the first dual-channel custom loudspeaker that correctly reproduces information from two channel stereo sources. The new BG model accurately integrates signals from both stereo channels into one, so that true high fidelity and outstanding coverage can be delivered from a single loudspeaker. “Dual-channel” or “dual voice coil” loudspeakers are a popular application in custom installation for smaller listening areas such as a bathroom, laundry room or walk-in closet. The BG PD-6CS provides a superior alternative to conventional models currently available on the market by utilizing the same high performance ribbon driver, Kevlar woofer and neodymium magnet found in other PD-Series models. Priced at $399 each, the PD-6CS will also be offered in master cartons of four units and available for delivery from BG in January 2006. The secret lies in BG’s Coherent Signal Summation, accurately integrating signals from both stereo channels into one signal that can be reproduced from a single loudspeaker. This advanced design combines a dual voice coil woofer and single tweeter with a signal summation network which is built around a specifically designed summation transformer. The transformer employs a high performance “Metglas” core while integrating tweeter crossover and attenuation controls into one network. The result is smooth, wide and consistent coverage. According to Igor Levitsky, Vice President of Engineering and Research at BG Corp, “A single speaker cannot reproduce ‘stereo’. Conventional single ‘stereo’ models found on the market today typically use two closely spaced tweeters for reproduction of high frequencies. This leads to very irregular dispersion with narrow coverage on-axis and a series of peaks and nulls off-axis which in turn degrades the original sound.” Mr. Levitsky went onto explain, “Turning the tweeters away from each other, does not help either. Such loudspeakers do not create any stereo image nor do they correctly sum information from both channels into a solid mono signal. Our PD-6CS is the only speaker to properly solve this problem and the sonic benefits are readily apparent to the average listener.” Key Features of the PD-6CS: · Coherent Signal Summation technology provides balanced and spatially consistent reproduction for both stereo channels to a single point source loudspeaker · Exclusive patented planar ribbon tweeter produces extremely wide, even coverage over the entire listening environment · Concentric tweeter with swivel mounting and level adjustment switch provides optimum aiming and balancing- makes installations more flexible · Dual voice coil Kevlar™ cone woofer with rubber surround, Neodymium magnet system and acoustically transparent chassis dramatically minimizes distortion · Improved poly-composite frame (paintable), stiff metal grilles and glass-filled composite toggle clamps simplify installation and provide trouble free operation
