Image Entertainment, Inc. (Nasdaq: DISK), a leading independent licensee, producer and distributor of home entertainment programming in North America, today announced it has secured the DVD rights to “Hail! Hail! Rock N’ Roll”, the much-celebrated 1987 feature film that captured the musical event commemorating the 60th birthday of music legend Chuck Berry. Image and Hackford plan to release the DVD in both 2-disc and 4-disc boxed sets, which will feature a wide array of bonus content, including never-before-seen footage, interviews, documentaries and much more. “We are extremely excited to be working with Taylor Hackford to bring this musical masterpiece to consumers on DVD for the very first time,” said Barry Gordon, senior vice president of worldwide programming of Image Entertainment. “Of all the filmed musical events of the past few decades, ‘Hail! Hail! Rock N’ Roll’ stands as one of the most significant, and Taylor’s vision for the film brought this event to unparalleled heights.” The film documents the 1986 gathering of great musicians who, at the invitation of Keith Richards, performed for an evening of music to honor Berry on his 60th birthday. Among the music superstars featured are Eric Clapton, Etta James, Linda Rondstadt, Robert Cray and Julian Lennon. Interviews with legends Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Roy Orbison, and Bo Diddley are also incorporated into the film. “I’m thrilled that ‘Hail! Hail! Rock N’ Roll’ is finally going to be available on DVD,” said Hackford. “But what I’m really excited about is the opportunity that Image Entertainment has given me to present literally hours and hours of wonderful, never-seen-before footage that I didn’t have time to include in the original feature film. These bonus materials are truly historic: intimate jam sessions featuring Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Etta James, Johnny Johnson, Keith Richards and Chuck improvising brilliantly together; extended interviews with many of the original founders of rock & roll; an intimate conversation between Chuck Berry and The Band’s Robbie Robertson in which CB talks about his prison experiences for the first time; and much, much more – over seven hours of new material.” About Image Entertainment: Image Entertainment, Inc. is a leading independent licensee, producer and distributor of home entertainment programming in North America, with approximately 3,000 exclusive DVD titles and over 200 exclusive CD titles in domestic release and approximately 300 programs internationally via sublicense agreements.
