DisplaySearch and Leading Display Electronics Companies to Discuss the Digital TV Transition at Upcoming US FPD Conference

February 14, 2006

DisplaySearch, an NPD Group Company and the worldwide leader in display market research and consulting, will host a much-anticipated industry session on Display Electronics at the upcoming 8th Annual DisplaySearch US FPD Conference, North America's largest display industry market research conference. As part of a recent US government FCC mandate, all broadcasters must convert from analog signals and complete their transition to Digital Television (DTV) by 2009. As a result, semiconductor and electronics companies who supply TV solutions to leading consumer electronics companies, TV manufacturers, ODMs and IT companies worldwide are being impacted by this monumental change to the industry. The 8th Annual DisplaySearch US FPD Conference is being held at Loews Coronado Bay Resort in San Diego on March 21-23, 2006. The Display Electronics session, to take place on Day 3, Thursday, March 23 will answer the following questions: -- What is the current state of the digital transition? -- How will the digital transition affect the semiconductor/electronics industry overall? -- How will each participating company tackle the issues that arise with this transition? -- How is each company poised to succeed? DisplaySearch is participating in this session with three TV electronics leaders--Genesis Microchip, Micronas and Silicon Image (Simplay Labs)--and with start-up Enuclia Semiconductor. Leading TV brands Dell, LGE, Panasonic, Sharp, Sony, Syntax-Brillian and ViewSonic will also be making presentations covering these and other topics throughout the event. States Henry Choy, VP of Display Electronics at DisplaySearch, "There are over 40 semiconductor companies who are all trying to win in the TV electronics market segment and competition is fierce. This session aims to discuss and clarify many of the major issues that the industry faces, especially in regards to the digital transition. We will also explore the important questions for this field: Will a single chip solution win overall? Is the competition over or is it just beginning? How large is this market overall?" The Display Electronics session will feature these six speakers: -- Henry Choy, VP of Display Electronics at DisplaySearch, will present the overall display electronics industry lay-out, including the latest market outlook and trends, and the effect of the ATSC conversion including how many ATSC tuners shipments and forecasts. -- Bruce Berkoff, President and CEO, Enuclia Semiconductor--This new player in the TV electronics space will address the new waves of change: standard def to high def, analog to digital and CRT to flat panel. Mr. Berkoff joins Enuclia as their President and CEO after a long-standing tenure as Executive VP of Marketing at LG.Philips LCD. He will discuss how Enuclia is poised to succeed in the market with new electronics architectures built to accommodate these changes. -- Johann Weierer, Director of Strategic Marketing at Micronas--Electronics have come a long way in helping to improve video quality. Mr. Weierer will examine whether video with today's chips are good enough for the consumer and where improvements will be made in the future. -- Robert Haefling, VP of Corporate Marketing at Genesis Microchip and Joseph C. Lee, Director of Marketing at Simplay Labs (a subsidiary of Silicon Image)--The issues of cost associated with higher resolution displays and each company's proposed interface solutions for both TVs and monitors will be presented. Each will provide upcoming interface standards and solutions overview. They will also address why their standards make sense. -- Brian Mathews, Marketing Manager in Digital TV Products at ATI Technologies--Although most US households do not watch TV over a terrestrial signal, over-the-air (OTA) performance is still important in the selection of semiconductor solutions. This will be especially true when demodulators become integrated into the MPEG front-end chip. Mr. Mathews will review the key market, regulatory and technical factors involved when selecting a DTV receiver solution.
