Dolby Leads Motion Picture Industry Into Digital Future At ShoWest 2006

Updated digital cinema solutions help drive industry standards

Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) announced today that it will showcase its latest digital cinema and audio enhancing cinema products at the ShoWest 2006 convention in Las Vegas, March 13-16 at Bally's Paris Resort in booth 1605. Through its leadership, products, and services, Dolby continues to help drive the industry toward meeting industry standards, including the current DCI specifications, and lead the motion picture industry into the digital future. At ShoWest 2006, the largest gathering of motion picture professionals and theater owners from around the globe, Dolby will premiere its digital cinema server that can play back content in both the JPEG 2000 and MPEG (MPEG-2) file formats. The Dolby® Digital Cinema system provides exhibitors with an easy transition to JPEG 2000 by allowing playback of future JPEG 2000-encoded content, as well as movies and alternative content in the current MPEG format. As part of this new enhancement, Dolby has added JPEG encoding to its digital cinema mastering and distribution service. "Dolby is very proud of its contributions in helping the industry come together this past year to bring digital cinema to a wider audience," said Tim Partridge, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Professional Division, Dolby Laboratories. Also on display in the Dolby ShoWest booth will be the innovative CP650 Digital Cinema Processor, the engine of Dolby's modern cinema sound system. Dolby reached a milestone recently, as the company has now sold 25,000 processors for cinemas worldwide. Dolby Laboratories will also be actively involved in the ShoWest 2006 program. Dolby's Tim Partridge will participate in the ShoWest International Day panel "Digital Cinema: The International Perspective" on Monday, March 13 in the Paris Hotel's Theatre of Arts at 4:00 p.m. On March 14, Dolby Digital Cinema will be used by the conference during its opening day ceremony where Producer Paula Wagner of War of the Worlds and Mission: Impossible III will provide opening remarks and Texas Instruments DLP Cinema® will host a "Salute to the $100 Million Films of 2005." In addition, Dolby will cosponsor ShoWest's final day luncheon. To date, more than 30 digital movies have been presented on nearly 150 screens using Dolby Digital Cinema. Recent and current presentations in select locations around the world include The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire; Eight Below; Glory Road; and Chicken Little in digital 3-D.
