Pacific Media Associates Makes Sweeping Changes To Front Projector Forecasts

New Era will see emerging segments fuel rapid growth in consumer market

April 5, 2006

Pacific Media Associates (PMA), the global market information experts on large-screen displays, has just released a new shipment, street price, and revenue outlook for the front projector industry. Coming on the heels of PMA’s recent announcement that 2006 is ushering in a New Era in front projection, these latest forecasts provide hard data to guide those looking to seize innovative market opportunities. “A few manufacturers have already gotten the idea. They’ve brought instant theaters and pocket projectors to market,” said Michael Abramson, PMA Vice President for Front Projectors. “Those two segments alone are expected to generate nearly three million unit sales by 2010 and help the consumer market play a greater role in the industry. So too will a product geared toward kids: $299 video boomboxes. We expect to see high-volume production of these all-in-one audio/video devices within the next two years.” The New Era in front projection will also be marked by major changes in the professional market. The widescreen world is coming to mainstream business, religious, government, and higher-education settings. That will lead to triple-digit growth in affordable 768p and 1080p front projectors. The outlook for higher resolution 4 x 3 projectors is just as bright as smaller and lower-priced SXGA+ projectors offer portability to match higher-resolution notebooks as well as higher quality image reproduction for typical office applications. “More than three years ago, sub-$1,000 SVGA projectors energized the projector industry,” said Abramson. “But now we are on the verge of a New Era in front projection, one that will be characterized by manufacturers and suppliers that are going to win with new technologies, appealing industrial and consumer designs, new consumer electronic gadgets for the masses, and market approaches that embrace revolutionary change rather than a me-too attitude.” About Pacific Media Associates PMA specializes in global display market information, covering all large-screen display categories: front projectors, plasma and LCD TVs, and rear-projection displays.
