Dolby Laboratories, Inc., (NYSE:DLB - News) today announced that it was selected by MEGAPLEX Theatres to outfit 20 of its screens with Dolby® Digital Cinema throughout MEGAPLEX's chain of multiplexes in Utah. Ten of the Dolby Digital Cinema systems will be installed in MEGAPLEX's new multiplex, the MEGAPLEX 20 in South Jordan, Utah, which will celebrate its grand opening on May 19, 2006. As the newest member of the MEGAPLEX family, the MEGAPLEX 20 is leading the industry in the move to digital cinema with plans to dedicate seven of its screens to digital-cinema-only presentations, making it one of the first multiple-screen installations of digital-cinema-only theatres. "We are proud of our place in history as one of the first to devote multiple screens exclusively to the digital cinema experience. With the flood of new digital movies being distributed, we are confident we will satisfy even the most sophisticated moviegoers with crystal clear images and sound their eyes and ears won't believe," said Dale Harvey, General Manager, MEGAPLEX Theatres. "We selected Dolby Digital Cinema for our theatres because we know from our many years of working with Dolby that we're getting not only the best system, but the best commitment and expertise to support that system." "MEGAPLEX's choice to devote seven of its new digital cinema installations to digital-cinema-only screens is a great vote of confidence in the availability of digital content today and in the future of digital cinema," said Tim Partridge, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Professional Division, Dolby Laboratories. "The motion picture industry is clearly transitioning to digital cinema, and as a company with more than 30 years' history with the exhibitor community, Dolby is proud to help make that transition an easy one." MEGAPLEX Theatres worked with Dolby for the installation of the theatre chain's first digital cinema system as part of Dolby's collaboration in the presentation of Chicken Little in digital 3-D on 84 screens nationwide in the fall of 2005. MEGAPLEX's Jordan Commons multiplex housed a Dolby Digital Cinema system in what was one of the highest-grossing screens during the movie's run. Due in part to the large success of its first digital cinema experience, MEGAPLEX selected Dolby for its plans to further integrate digital cinema throughout its chain of theatres. To date, more than 35 digital movies have been presented on nearly 150 Dolby Digital Cinema systems in theatres worldwide, including North America, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, and the UK. Recent digital movies presented using Dolby Digital Cinema in select locations around the world include Aquamarine, Eight Below, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Scary Movie 4, and V for Vendetta. The Dolby Digital Cinema system is specifically engineered for real-world cinema installations and offers superb picture quality, reliability, and user-friendly operation.
