Coming soon to nine million televisions across the nation: a virtual aquarium designed to boost positive mental and emotional states, courtesy of Screen Dreams Publishing, Inc., an entrepreneurial company enjoying strong growth at the Rutgers-Camden Business Incubator In a new deal with Comcast Select On Demand, the Camden-based company will provide its “Living Marine Aquarium” video for the Harmony Channel, which delivers ambient music and visuals to Comcast users. The Screen Dreams video will begin to air in August. The Comcast deal is yet another success for the Rutgers-Camden incubator client, which recently introduced the “Living Fireplace” screensaver for flat-panel televisions as part of its Living Series line of DVD screensavers that transform unused flat-panel televisions into living artwork. Philadelphia resident Stephen Spivak launched Screen Dreams in March 2005. As a client company in the Rutgers-Camden Business Incubator, Screen Dreams benefits from a complete portfolio of general and targeted business advice and counseling, and such essential entrepreneurial services as access to capital, shared conference and office support, and Rutgers MBA student and faculty support.. The Rutgers-Camden Technology Campus, Inc., which includes the business incubator, has approximately 35 on-site and 15 virtual client tenant businesses that generate more than 155 jobs in the City of Camden. Four RCTC companies have received private sector capital and other investment, and now are employers located in the metro Philadelphia region. Spivak praised the Rutgers-Camden incubator, noting that it allows him to focus on developing new products and building value in his company. According to Spivak, Screen Dreams’ products differ from traditional screensavers for computers in that they prevent blank, unused flat-screen televisions from becoming dark spaces on walls by providing vibrant artwork in motion. He describes the “Living Marine Aquarium” that will appear on Comcast as having “all the variations and sounds of a fish tank hanging on your wall.” “The success of Screen Dreams is not only an accomplishment for Steve Spivak but also for the Rutgers-Camden Business Incubator,” says Peter Gold, CEO of the Rutgers-Camden Technology Campus, Inc. “New businesses have a better chance for success when they start in our incubator. By nurturing businesses like Screen Dreams, Rutgers is stimulating southern New Jersey’s economic environment.” The Rutgers-Camden Technology Campus, Inc., currently is located in a facility on the Virtua-Camden campus. This fall, the RCTC and other Rutgers services for the regional business community will become the principal tenants in the new state-of-the-art Camden Waterfront Technology Center. Screen Dreams is a leading developer and distributor of animated DVD screensavers for flat-panel TVs that is changing the way TVs are used by filling blank screens with vibrant animated screensavers that can play continuously to provide ambient viewing experiences that soothe, entertain, please, and delight. Adapted from the world’s most popular computer screensavers, Screen Dreams DVDs come complete with natural sound effects and originally produced music. The framed scenes enliven any room. Screen Dreams’ first series of DVD screensavers for TVs—The Living Series—turns the blank void of a turned-off flat-panel TV into a window that reveals animated beaches, waterfalls, butterflies, and aquarium scenes.
