Pacific Media Associates, the global market information experts on large-screen displays, is nearly completed gathering data for its annual North American Dealer Survey. Near-final results reveal that Front Projection displays are preferred for home theater installations. Just over 50% of dealers indicated that consumers believe Front Projection is primarily good for a true home theater experience while rear projection and flat panel TVs are more appropriate for mainstream TV programs. "With all the attention focused on plasma displays and LCD TVs, we wanted to see how Front Projection really fit into the big picture of home entertainment," said Michael Abramson, Vice President of Pacific Media Associates. "And when it comes to the true home theater experience - watching movies - Front Projection is apparently the preferred choice among consumers." The most surprising results of the survey debunked some commonly held myths about Front Projection in the home. Only 5% of dealers reported that ambient light issues make front projection a hard sell. As for the challenges of installation and room décor with front projection, less than 15% of dealers reported that these issues make front projection a hard sell. Some dealers have already taken steps to address these misperceptions by opening up new concept stores and committing additional showroom space devoted to front projection. "These new dealer initiatives will go along way to showcase Front Projection to more consumers," added Abramson. "Along with the impending rollout of native 1080p and 720p projectors to suit all design tastes and budgets, we expect 2006 will mark a watershed year in consumer front projection.” The 2006 North American Dealer Survey data collection continues through the end of next week; the final reports will be distributed free to all participants in the fourth quarter.
