Simplay Labs, LLC, the leading provider of testing technologies, programs and interoperability design standards for the high-definition consumer electronics industry, today announced that 13 new major consumer electronic makers, including Bose, Grundig, Hewlett-Packard, JVC, Microsoft, Panasonic, Thomson and Yamaha, have joined the Simplay HD™ Testing Program. The Simplay HD Testing Program helps consumers identify high-definition (HD) components, such as HDTVs and next-generation DVD players, that will work together to provide a consistent “plug and play” user experience and to maximize users’ access to premium HD content. More than 100 products are currently authorized to use the Simplay HD logo. The Simplay HD Testing Program is designed to catch issues that can affect interoperability between systems before consumers experience the problems. Products bearing the Simplay HD logo have undergone testing related to the High-Definition Multimedia Interface™ (HDMI™) and High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) specifications, as well as compatibility testing with a suite of other devices that have been Simplay HD verified. A list of some of the commercially-available Simplay HD verified products is available at www.simplayhd.com. “We’ve decided to have all our products with HDMI inputs and/or outputs undergo Simplay Labs testing,” said David Naranjo, director of product development at Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America. “Mitsubishi is very focused on exceeding consumer expectations. The added assurance of compatibility with other Simplay HD tested devices is a great service for our customers and is well worth the effort.” “With Acoustic Research HDMI cables that carry the Simplay HD logo, consumers can rest easy knowing that a pure digital HDMI link is connecting their consumer electronics hardware and high-definition display,” said Sharon Vernon, general manager for Thomson’s Accessory business. “Interoperability of audio/video receivers, DVD players, set-top boxes, cables, displays and other products will be enhanced with the Simplay HD Testing Program. When you’ve made the kind of investment necessary to bring high-definition signals into your home theater environment, it’s important to complete that experience with Simplay HD verified, high-quality HDMI cables.” “Simplay Labs goes beyond being an authority in testing high-definition consumer electronics products,” said Akihiro Muramatsu, manager of product development at Yamaha Corp.’s AV Products Division. “It is a full-service organization helping manufacturers design products of the highest quality, ensuring that consumers will receive a consistent, high-performance audio and video experience. We are delighted to be a Simplay HD partner, and our AV receiver products will proudly bear the Simplay HD logo to convey this mark of highest quality to our customers.” While HDMI Authorized Testing Centers test products in accordance with the HDMI Compliance Test Specification, Simplay Labs builds upon this core interface testing with additional technologies and testing programs that simplify component purchase decisions and enhance the consumer’s high-definition entertainment experience.
