Genesis(R) Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for flat-panel TVs, monitors, and other consumer display products, today announced that its FLI8668 (Cortez Advanced) video controller was selected by Sony Corporation for use in its new High Definition audio/video receiver the "STR-DA5200ES". The FLI8668 offers several advanced, performance-driven features and technologies to support High Definition applications including true 10-bit performance and a high level of integration featuring two 3D, 10-bit IntelliComb(TM) video decoders and two channels of DCDi(R) by Faroudja video processing. Cortez Advanced also supports higher resolution 1080p and WUXGA (1920 x 1200) displays and features the next generation of Faroudja(R) video enhancements. Adoption of the FLI8668 results in extensive video processing capabilities, including upconversion of High Definition digital video from any input signal. Sony's STR-DA5200ES will carry the Faroudja DCDi Cinema(R) logo to denote the inclusion of these technologies. "Consumers now have an amazingly powerful audio and video platform that delivers high-end capabilities at attractive home theater price points. Drawing on the controller's capability, the STR-DA5200ES also supports a wide range of audio and video inputs and features a simple-to-use, on-screen graphical user interface display to guide consumers through the set-up process and to serve as the command center," said Hiroyuki Ito, general manager, Home Audio division of Sony's Audio Business Group in Tokyo. "We are excited about expanding our video processing technologies into this adjacent market segment, in addition to our TV and monitor markets, by working together with Sony on its new High Definition audio/video receiver," said Raphael Mehrbians, Genesis Microchip's senior vice president of Product Marketing. "We believe that Sony's new AVRs will deliver superior image quality for both High Definition and Standard Definition video sources, by offering Genesis's latest generation of Faroudja-based video processing. Consumers can identify AVRs with this technology by the Faroudja DCDi Cinema(R) logo clearly visible on these devices." About Genesis Microchip Genesis Microchip Inc.
