Optoma Selects Gennum's VXP™ Technology To Power Home Theatre 1080p Projector

September 19, 2006

Gennum Corporation (TSX: GND), a leading producer of professional-quality image processing solutions, today announced that Optoma, a leading manufacturer of digital projection and display devices, will produce a true 1080p home theatre projection system using Gennum's GF9351 Image Processor with Visual Excellence Processing ™ (VXP™) technology. The Optoma HD81, available in September 2006, is Optoma's newest high performance digital projection system, offering a true 1080p (1920 x 1080) and creating the model for the home theatre experience. Even if the media source is not a true 1080p feed, the motion adaptive HD de-interlacer converts the content using VXP technology, providing an image with the performance comparable to cinematic digital projectors, developing a new standard for home entertainment. Powered by the HD3000 scaling system containing Gennum's GF9351 image processor, the two-piece design of the Optoma HD81 simplifies the installation process, allows for better cable management and eases the user interface to the projector. The industrial design of the projector piece has a significantly lower noise level than other home theatre projectors due to the patent pending tunnel cooling system and low-power electronics which provides near-silent operation with minimal light leakage. "Audiences' expectations have increased dramatically over the past ten years, and viewers demand to see home theatre experiences that rival digital theatrical presentation," said Craig Thompson, Manager, Product Marketing, Image Processing at Gennum Corporation. "To meet these requirements Optoma needed a processor that could handle computation-intensive high-definition video processing in real time, and they recognised that Gennum's VXP technology is one of the only solutions powerful enough to provide the resolution, quality and flexibility of displaying both standard and high-definition material in true 1080p." The GF9351 features the latest de-interlacing and scaling algorithms with dynamic edge detection to provide the sharpest and cleanest possible image. All VXP algorithms support high-definition processing, offering complete input and output support for today's large resolution, high bandwidth demands. "In putting together a high-quality home theatre projection system, you look for a high-end processor," said Ralph Merrem, Vice President, Product & Marketing at Optoma Technology, Inc. "Gennum's strong history of quality in video processing combined with the GF9351 superior intelligent motion-adaptive de-interlacing, directional interpolation, high-performance noise reduction, and 10-bit color processing made the VXP technology the ideal choice for our quality image processing needs."
