ELAN Home Systems Announces The Most Significant Advancement In Speaker Selectors In 20 Years With The Debut Of PlayRoom™

Intelligent Speaker Selectors in 2-, 4- and 6-Room Models are IR Controllable from any Room and Ensure Maximum Power and Optimum Impedance

September 19, 2006

ELAN Home Systems, a leading manufacturer of award-winning Multi-Room audio/video and home control systems, announced today the trade debut of PlayRoom™ - a totally new, patent-pending line of Intelligent Speaker Selectors that redefines the use, performance and flexibility of speaker selectors in multi-room audio systems. CEDIA, the custom electronics industry’s largest trade show, is being held in Denver, Colorado through September 17. The announcement was made by Bob Farinelli, ELAN’s President and Chief Technology Officer. The most significant advancement in speaker selectors in 20 years, ELAN’s PlayRoom Intelligent Speaker Selectors are IR-controllable and feature patent-pending Dynamic Power Distribution (DPD) circuitry. Users can utilize their favorite remote to turn music on or off and adjust the volume in each room, independently, without have to go back to the head end. IR sensors in each room also allow for pass-thru IR control of other stereo components. Representing another industry first from ELAN, PlayRoom features easily-configured dipswitches that allow you to define the impedance of the speakers connected to it and the impedance rating of the receiver or amplifier being used. Its DPD circuitry then detects the number of speakers active at any given time and dynamically adjusts the impedance settings as users turn the volume up or down. This ensures that all speakers receive maximum power at all times, and that the receiver/amplifier is never operating below its nominal impedance rating. “The release of ELAN’s PlayRoom Intelligent Speaker Selectors represents a great move forward in perfecting Multi-Room audio listening at an affordable price point,” stated Mr. Farinelli. “The added features provided make PlayRoom the most complete speaker selector box on the market today.” PlayRoom lets users create ‘scenes’ that can turn on groups of rooms, or every room. Discrete, room-specific IR commands also allow users to control the volume and on/off status of any other room. Controllable form the front panel as well, PlayRoom uses electronic push buttons in lieu of traditional knobs for room selection and volume adjustment. LED feedback indicates room on/off status and volume levels for each room. Only 1≤” high, PlayRoom Intelligent Speaker Selectors can be easily stacked with other audio components or rack-mounted with the included rack ears. PlayRoom Intelligent Speaker Selectors are available in 2-, 4- and 6-room models and include an IR remote control that can be used to “teach” the user’s favorite learning remotes. The PR2 2-Room Intelligent Speaker Selector is listed at an MSRP of $299, the 4-room PR4 at $499 and the 6-room PR6 at $699. The products will be debuted at CEDIA Expo 2006 in Denver, CO and are targeted for full release in the first quarter of 2007.
