Academy Award Winning Panelists, Product Premieres, Education Slate Announced For November 2nd HD Expo

Industry's Most Successful Technology Event Features Panels, Exhibits, Educational Intensives

On November 2nd at the Universal City Hilton in Los Angeles, Academy Award£ winners, technologists, creative and business leaders will gather at HD EXPO for a full day of educational panels and exhibits. HD EXPO is recognized as the preeminent technology conference and community that consistently explores the application and rapid evolution of digital tools in the creative process. Moderated by Bob Fisher, “The Camera Crew“ panelists include Daryn Okada, ASC, President of the American Society of Cinematographers, Dave Fredericks, President of the Society of Operating Cameramen-Local 600, Steven Poster, ASC President of the International Cinematography Guild (ICG) as well as directors and producers who will meet in a candid discussion about the shared mission of getting the best results on-screen. In cooperation with American Cinema Editors, HD EXPO presents “High End Technology and The Summer Blockbuster,“ a panel featuring some of today's best-known editors, including Stephen Rivkin, ACE (Pirates of the Caribbean I, II and III), Billy Goldenberg, ACE (Miami Vice), Jon Ottman (Superman Returns), Mark Helfrich, ACE (X-Men: The Last Stand) and Julia Wong (X-Men: The Last Stand). The panel, moderated by Debra Kaufman, will take the audience into the creative use of the latest technologies utilized in summer’s biggest movies. Stephen Pizzello, Executive Editor of American Cinematographer magazine, will moderate “The American Cinematographer Case Study: The Black Dahlia,“ featuring Academy Award winner Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC and Mike Sowa, Senior Colorist from LaserPacific. The American Cinematographer Case Studies are explorations and Q & A’s with cinematographers and their collaborators. The Black Dahlia Case Study will explore the collaboration between the revered cinematographer and his colorist on the film. The Black Dahlia. utilized a 4K Digital Intermediate; a first for Zsigmond and for LaserPacific. The November 2nd HD EXPO will offer an expanded educational slate including: “Making it in Hollywood in the Editing Room,“ a five hour seminar led by award-winning editor Lori Jane Coleman, ACE, and featuring a high powered faculty. The seminar carries a $65 fee that benefits ACE. The seminar’s distinguished editors include Academy Award£ winner and ACE President Alan Heim, ACE, Mark Helfrich, ACE, Maysie Hoy, ACE, Michael Tronick, ACE and Doug Ibold, ACE. This highly successful training program has previously only been available through the exclusive internship program offered by ACE. The ADOBE Intensive, “From Ingest to Distribution“, will focus on the many factors relating to real world production and Adobe’s support for the newest cameras. HD FUNDAMENTALS, a presentation of HD EXPO Workshops, is a one-day workshop that imparts a thorough understanding of high definition technologies and their impact on entertainment, broadcast, commercial and visual content creation from production through postproduction. HD FUNDAMENTALS will be held November 1st, and requires separate registration. Returning to HD EXPO is The Insider’s Preview, a series of product premieres from leading companies.
