DLP Cinema Extends Deal With Cinea’s Digital Cinema Certificate Program

Texas Instruments’ DLP Cinema Unit Utilizes Cinea COSMOS Service to Authenticate Digital Cinema Projectors as “Trusted” Devices

Cinea, Inc., a subsidiary of Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB), announced today that Texas Instruments has ordered an additional block of 1,000 “digital certificates” from Cinea as part of Texas Instruments’ ongoing production of digital cinema projector components. Cinea’s COSMOS™ Digital Cinema Certificate program provides digital cinema equipment manufacturers with digital certificates compliant with Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC (DCI) Digital Cinema System Specification, version 1.0. These certificates authenticate specified equipment as “trusted” devices. Once a digital certificate (a data record that is irrevocably bound to a device) is issued to a given device, that device is thereafter considered part of a “trusted environment,” and can be authorized to give or receive content from other trusted devices. The certificates are required by the DCI Digital Cinema System Specification to reduce the risk of unauthorized access to digital cinema content. “Cinea’s mission in the digital cinema marketplace is to provide robust and transparent security services that will help make digital cinema a reality,” said Robert Schumann, General Manager of Cinea, Inc. “Digital certificate generation is one of the critical underlying services required to support the full-scale deployment of digital cinema. The Certificate Authority, which incorporates a hardware-based signing module, receives electronic certificate requests from the manufacturer and generates digital certificates in real-time. The certificates are also relayed to Cinea’s back-end network for secure long-term storage and retrieval.
