Introducing The SLP 03 By Cary Audio: A New Balanced Stereo Vacuum Tube Preamplifier

The SLP 03 preamplifier is the newest addition to the Classic Series product line. It joins the SLP 05 and the SLP 98 preamplifiers so that we now offer a wealth of choices when searching for a vacuum tube preamplifier. The SLP 03 preamplifier is a blend of digital technology and pure balanced analog discrete vacuum tube circuitry. The SLP 03 offers 18 dB of overall gain and has a pure balanced design circuit. It has many attractive features including full remote control selection of the input, channel balance and the volume setting. This is our first fully remote control preamplifier and having it vacuum tube based makes it unique for us. Our other preamplifier designs are remote control for volume and muting only. All the audio signals are amplified through dual triode 12AU7 vacuum tubes in a Class A biased ‘zero feedback’ circuit. The front panel display is a vacuum florescent display (VFD) with a blue lens. The display shows critical control functions from a 32 bit Motorola CPU incorporated inside the preamplifier. The display brightness levels are adjustable with the remote control. The CPU stores all user-selected information for the volume level of each input and the balance setting for each channel. This processor is the controller ‘brain’ for all active functions. The analog audio section includes a total of eight (8) fully regulated power supplies with separate supplies for each channel’s vacuum tube analog circuitry, plus the multiple power supplies for the front panel alphanumeric display and supplies for the Motorola microprocessor. The SLP 03, when combined with a solid state or vacuum tube power amplifier is capable of bringing outstanding musical reproduction into your home.
