Sierra Video Systems Announces Viper Ultra-Wideband Video Routing Switchers

500MHz RGBHV Routing Switcher Family Provides Deluxe Feature Set for Critical Video Environments

November 29, 2006

Sierra Video Systems, a leading provider of high-quality video and audio equipment for the government, broadcast, and professional video marketplaces, today announced the release of its Viper ultra-wideband video routing switchers. These RGBHV routing switchers have 500MHz bandwidth and feature hot-swappable video boards, control processors, and power supplies. Viper routing switchers’ modularity allow for increased performance and reliability in critical video applications. “The Viper family of routing switchers is our first large RGBHV offering and is designed expressly for mission critical applications,” said Chris Santos, product manager for Sierra Video Systems. “With Viper routing switchers, we’ve packaged all of the features essential to maximize in-service time, like hot-swappable video and CPU boards, in an extremely compact frame size of only 20 rack units for the entire RGBHV system. These features are especially important in high-end broadcast and government applications.” -- continued -- -- Page 2 - The new Viper ultra-wideband routing switchers offer configurations up to 64x64 in 8 input and/or 8 output increments, all housed in an extremely compact frame: 4RU per video channel. Viper routing switcher systems can be ordered according to the video signal type to be used. Each frame can be used as a single video channel or as a single sync channel. For RGBHV signal use, 5 frames would be required. For component video use (RGsB or YUV), 3 frames would be required. A 5-channel RGBHV system stands 20RU, roughly 10 rack units smaller than many competitive models. Video I/O boards, CPU boards, and power supplies are accessible via the front panel, allowing for field service and matrix reconfiguration. Redundant power supply and redundant control are optional. Viper routing switchers have a passive back plane with no external components, reducing the opportunity for failure or servicing. For applications requiring companion audio, Viper routing switchers are compatible with Sierra Video Systems’ modular Yosemite line of analog and digital routing switchers. Viper routing switchers are also compatible with Sierra Video Systems’ full line of advanced, programmable SCP control panels, and have built-in RS-232/RS-422 control. IP/Ethernet connectivity allows for control of the routing switcher on a Mac or PC, using a standard TCP/IP socket connection with the ability to simultaneously connect up to six devices to the routing switcher. The Viper ultra-wideband video routing switchers are currently available for ordering from the Sierra Video Systems and Kramer Electronics worldwide reseller networks. -- continued -- -- Page 3 -- About Sierra Video Systems: Sierra Video Systems, a subsidiary of Kramer Electronics, is a leading provider of high quality video and audio equipment for the worldwide broadcast, post-production, presentation and professional video marketplaces.
