Anchor Bay's ABT102 And ABT1010 Video Processor Chips Chosen For Arcam's DV139 DVD Player

VRS˙ Precision Deinterlacing˙ and Precision Video Scaling˙ Technologies Provide Crystal-Clear 1080p Output for High-Resolution Displays

December 22, 2006

Anchor Bay today announced that its ABT102 and ABT1010 video processing ICs ˜ featuring Video Reference Series˙ (VRS˙) Precision Deinterlacing˙ and Precision Video Scaling˙ technologies ˜ have been chosen by Arcam for use in the new DV139 DVD player. The DV139 is the second system from Arcam to implement Anchor Bay's video processing chips, joining the recently announced DV137 universal DVD player. Powered by video processor ICs from Anchor Bay, Arcam's DV139 DVD player obtains the very best quality from DVD-video, CD, DVD-audio, and SACD. Its ultra-low jitter clocking ensures a solid and accurate sound field, while twin toroidal mains transformers provide completely separate power supplies to maintain the highest-level signal quality possible for the audio and video subsystems. "Having already used the ABT1010 in our DV137 universal DVD player, we knew that no other video processing solution could match Anchor Bay's outstanding reference-quality performance so cost-effectively," said Charlie Brennan, CEO of Arcam. "Anchor Bay's deinterlacing and scaling technologies have been instrumental in enabling the DV139 to deliver the best possible image quality for our customers' high-resolution displays." Anchor Bay's ABT102 and ABT1010 ICs are based on proprietary VRS Precision Deinterlacing and Precision Video Scaling technologies, respectively, to achieve an outstanding picture quality for today's high-resolution video displays. The ABT102 is a video deinterlacer IC that converts 480i/576i input signal formats to 480p/576p, applying source-adaptive, motion-adaptive, and edge-adaptive techniques, based on automatic detection of input signal types, to produce an outstanding progressive signal. Featuring Anchor Bay's arbitrary cadence detection feature, the ABT102 also detects non-standard cadences and compensates to minimize artifacts. The ABT1010 is a video scaling IC can independently scale an image horizontally and vertically for optimal picture quality on any display. The ABT1010 accepts 480p/576p inputs, and outputs any resolution from VGA (640x480) to 1080p (1920x1080) without ringing or other artifacts, such as those found in solutions where scaling engines are integrated into an MPEG decoder chip. "Anchor Bay is honored to have our VRS technology chosen by Arcam for both the DV137 and DV139 DVD players," said Craig Soderquist, CEO at Anchor Bay. "Their selection of our video processing ICs shows their commitment to producing the finest products possible, and demonstrates their confidence in Anchor Bay to make that happen." Anchor Bay's Precision Video Scaling and Precision Deinterlacing are but two of the host of video processing solutions marketed under the VRS umbrella. Other VRS brand technologies include Anchor Bay's VRS RightRate˙, VRS AutoCUE-C˙, VRS Precision AV LipSync˙, and the new VRS Progressive ReProcessing (PReP˙) technology.
