Screen Research, industry leader in acoustically transparent, acoustically neutral projection screens for the home and commercial markets, has announced a web-based specifying tool for its dealers and distributors, called the Configurator™. This password-protected web space, allows registered users, within a few minutes, to specify any standard or custom-sized screen and produce a full set of drawings. The user-friendly Configurator is available 24 hours a day and is currently available in two languages, English and French. Other language versions will be available in Q1 2007. FEATURES "Because the Configurator is web-based, and bilingual, it is available to all of our dealers, including those in French-Canada, no matter what time of the day or night they need to spec. a screen," said John Caldwell, sales director of StJohn Group, the company's North American distributor. "And being web-based also means all dimensional specifications and the live links to the technical documentation of the screen you are specifying are always up-to-date." The Configurator features a simple step-by-step process for specifying any screen the company offers. The user can configure the screen using width or diagonal measurements, and design an off-the-shelf model or custom sizes and aspect ratios using an online calculator. For example, knowing the opening a screen must fit into is all that is needed to get a custom model number and drawings. Full specifications are at the user's fingertips at all times. The user can name up to five jobs within the program, save each project, and go back to it at any time to access or modify the screen. During the specification process, the user may select dimensions in millimeters or inches. He may also see and select all of the options for frame types, material, mounting options, and accessories. When the user gets to the end of the spec'ing process, several more options are available. The user may add additional "private" comments regarding the job that will only appear on his own printout and the one that goes to StJohn Group. There is another comment field with room for "public" comments that will appear on all the documents. Here the user can print out a "light" (text only) version of the specified screen, or generate and print out a full, multiple-page PDF file with technical drawings which can then be saved. These files can also be e-mailed to the user, to StJohn Group, or any additional e-mail address the user specifies, e.g., framers, drywallers, cabinetmakers, builders, architects, installers, homeowners, or reps. D-Tools™ users can go one step further and import the drawings into Visio and manipulate the files as they wish. Screen Research has been a Manufacturer Vantage Point (MVP) partner with D-Tools since 2005. StJohn Group also encourages dealers to accompany their purchase orders with the Configurator's PDF drawings as a means of confirming the intended dimensions. AVAILABILITY The Configurator is available now to authorized Screen Research dealers and representatives at http://www.screenresearch.com/configurator/ and the sign-up process takes less than a minute. The access request goes to Screen Research and the distributor gets notified within 24 to 48 hours. Dealer validation and granting of access takes place once the representative approves the dealer's access.
