Panasonic Collaborates With Elliot Scheiner To Bring The Award-Winning ELS Surround System To The Home

Multi-Grammy Winner Creates the ELS 5.1 Home Theater Surround System

January 12, 2007

Multiple Grammy Award winning producer/ engineer Elliot Scheiner, who collaborated with Panasonic and Acura engineers to create the revolutionary ELS 5.1 surround system for the automobile, has again aligned himself with Panasonic to bring the same level of expertise and creativity to a high-end home theater system that will also carry his signature nickname, ELS. The ELS Home Theater system will debut in the summer of 2007 with a suggested retail price of $4499.95 and will feature Scheiner's trademark dedication to the highest audio quality available. The system will consist of a specially developed 5.1 DVD-Audio receiver, four floor standing speakers and an active sub woofer with dual cone woofer capable of reproducing frequencies from 28Hz - 300 Hz. Scheiner, who recently added an Emmy for his contribution to the Eagles NBC-TV special, to his impressive resume, has worked with a veritable who's who of major figures in the music industry - the Eagles, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, REM, The Foo Fighters, Queen, Jimmy Buffett, Faith Hill, to name a few. A desire to give the listener the same musical experience that he and his colleagues hear in the recording studio drew Scheiner to the unique aural quality of DVD-Audio 5.1 surround and his relationship with Panasonic and Acura resulted in the ELS system being available in three current Acura models: TL, RDX, MDX (standard in the TL, optional in the RDX and MDX). Discussing the system, Scheiner said, "From the moment I started working with engineers from Panasonic and Acura to develop the surround system I was thrilled. I had a few objectives in developing the system: reproduce music with extreme clarity and detail; deliver six channels of discrete music; and to achieve a listening experience as close as possible to the original studio mix. We accomplished that in the car and the same passion that went into that development has gone into development of the home theater system. "Friends who have driven one of the Acuras have asked me why there isn't such a sound system for the home. Well, now there is. I've been making music for more than 30 years and have had the privilege of working with many of the giants of this industry. One thing all of us have in common is a desire to produce pristine music. I think these systems do that and I'm really proud to have my name associated with both the car and the home 5.1 systems." The ELS home theater system consists of a an AV receiver with triple amp drive, three HDMI connections, full HD 1080i video transmission, EZ-Sync(TM) HDAVI control, 192 kHz/24 bit audio A/D converter, DVD-Audio ready, 6 discrete channels, auto speaker set-up and gold plated terminals. The ELS receiver produces 100 watts of power to each of the 7 channels in surround mode. The unit is capable of amplifying digital source signals containing massive amounts of information without degrading them. When it comes to speakers, Scheiner is a proponent of utilizing full-range speakers all around, as opposed to using satellite speakers for the rear. He points out that satellite speakers might suffice for surround movie audio, but for music you want the full capabilities from each speaker. The ELS speakers are designed to compliment and optimize Panasonic's high definition home theater system's audio capabilities. The system also includes a sub woofer with a dual 63/4-inch cone and a frequency response of 28Hz - 300Hz. "It's been a real privilege to be associated with a man of Elliot Scheiner's stature in the music industry," said Gene Kelsey, Panasonic Vice President, Entertainment Group. "There is no other consumer electronics company that I know of that has done what Panasonic has- worked with a major figure in music to produce audio systems for the home and car. Elliot has been held up as the gold standard in recording and it is that standard that makes the ELS home system the perfect complement to Panasonic's Plasma flat panels and Blu-ray player -- making the ultimate high definition home theater system."
