Digital Projection International (DPI), an Emmy® Award-winning manufacturer of high-performance projection systems, announced that for the ninth consecutive year, DPI will be the official provider of digital projectors to the Sundance Film Festival. The annual event will be held January 18th – 28th in Park City, Utah. The Sundance Film Festival will feature screenings on a wide variety of DPI’s diverse line of projectors. The annual event will showcase a full range of digital films, on screens ranging from 7 feet to 33 feet wide. For the larger screens, DP’s 3-chip DLP® LIGHTNING 40HD-T and HIGHlite Pro Series projectors will be utilized. For medium-sized venues, DP’s 3-chip TITAN series will be used. The company’s 1-chip dVision projectors will be employed in press areas. DPI began its relationship with the Sundance Film Festival in 1999 and ever since, the use of the company’s DLP® displays has steadily increased at every event. Projectors used at the festival are selected on the basis of their capability to display proper SMPTE specified lumens on the screen, as well as the appropriate resolution based on screen size and content. The 2007 Sundance Film Festival will feature more digital screenings than in any prior year, in a total of fifteen different venues. Over 100 of the films at this year’s festival were shot using HDCAM and will be screened digitally, on a projector from DPI. “There is a reason that DPI has been our only provider of digital projectors for the past nine years,” stated Laynee Jones, Sundance Festival Director of Operations. “As filmmakers continue to adopt the digital medium, they demand only the highest quality projection systems to display their craft. The superior quality and reliability of the DP products and their staff’s commitment to the success of the festival have kept our audiences engaged and our filmmakers delighted for nearly a decade,” Jones added. Digital Projection manufactures a wide range of DLP® projection systems for commercial, business and home cinema use. Many of the units specifically calibrated for the prestigious Sundance Film Festival will be available for purchase after the event.
