Digital Vision, a leading developer of advanced digital media applications specialising in film and video, today announced that Deluxe Digital Media has purchased a DVNR 2k with AGR4 ME film grain and video noise management option for its Sherman Oaks, California facility. The new system will be used to expand Deluxe’s telecine and HD feature mastering services in Los Angeles. It is the second DVNR system equipped with motion estimation (ME) algorithms to be purchased by Deluxe Digital Media and is expected to be fully operational later this month. Digital Vision’s DVNR Image Processing Workstation provides the industry’s highest-performing motion-compensated grain/noise management and dust/dirt removal tools. The AGR4 ME was designed for film, videotape restoration, and MPEG pre-processing. Advanced motion processing and adaptive 3-D filters enable facilities to produce cleaner, sharper pictures from film and video-originated material. It can be used for a wide range of applications, from reducing the intensity of film grain while preserving its structure to wiping out noise on video materials. Deluxe will integrate the new DVNR system into its telecine pipeline, making it accessible to any suite and operator in the facility through the company’s colour correction systems, or via the DVNR’s own software interface. “The DVNR will be multi-purposed within the facility,” said Juan Carlos Astoquillca, director of engineering & technology at Deluxe Digital Media. “With this tool we can offer clients a real-time process for dealing with grain – much faster than we could provide with a software-based tool. And when the colourists aren’t using it, we will put it in service for restoration projects. The DVNR helps us offer HD mastering services that give filmmakers the highest possible quality at a fraction of the cost of full 2k processing.” Simon Cuff, President of Digital Vision noted, “The DVNR 2k is designed to fit flexibly into whatever pipelines our clients require. In the case of Deluxe, their operators will be able to set the DVNR to manage film grain and noise imperfections from film or video in real time, still preserving the grain characteristics. Our unique motion estimation technology also insures that the system won’t introduce additional artefacts into their pictures.” He added, “The fact that Deluxe, like many of our long-time customers, continues to move to the newest DVNR technology, is a great testament to our commitment to meet the changing requirements of the film and video industry.”
