February 26, 2007

Michael Arndt has been selected by the American Screenwriters Association (ASA) to receive ASA’s prestigious Discover Screenwriting Award. The award honors a writer who, perhaps for the first time, had his or her screenplay produced into a feature film or movie for television, which received wide distribution or broadcast, and, in the opinion of our Board of Directors, reflects the highest levels of artistic achievement in screenwriting. The American Screenwriters Association is proud to present this award and assist in recognizing the contributions and accomplishments of screenwriters. Michael Arndt’s first produced feature film, Little Miss Sunshine, has been nominated for an Oscar, an Independent Spirit Award, and has won the BAFTA Film Critics Award, as well as the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Vanguard Award. The other nominees for this year’s Discover Screenwriting Award were Russell Gewirtz, Inside Man; Paul Greengrass, United 93; Peter Morgan, The Queen; and Jason Reitman, Thank You for Smoking. Prior recipients include Dan Futterman for Capote, Paul Haggis for Million Dollar Baby, Antwone Fisher for Antwone Fisher, Nia Vardalos for My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Milo Addica for Monster’s Ball. The American Screenwriters Association is a non-profit 501(c) 3 professional organization committed to the support and advancement of screenwriters, as well as the promotion of the art and craft of screenwriting.
