Wireworld Ships New Reference Cable Line

March 13, 2007

Wireworld has begun shipping its completely redesigned Series 5^2 (pronounced "five-squared") reference audio cables, delivering the highest level of performance and audio fidelity the company has ever offered. The series consists of three levels of matched interconnects and corresponding speaker cables that share a unique new geometry and structural design that not only improves audio fidelity, but is also easier to strip and terminate, than the company's highly respected previous generation of reference cables. "Our approach has always been to design cables that sound as close to a direct connection as possible in double blind listening tests" explains Wireworld president and chief engineer David Salz. "This means that in practice good cable design is all about minimizing the non-linear effects that degrade the audio signal. The theoretical ideal for this is to have a pair of conductors arranged in thin-walled concentric tubes to maintain completely consistent coupling between positive and negative conductors, thus minimizing adverse electromagnetic effects. The patented Symmetricoax design employed in all of our previous cables was a very effective way of approximating this ideal, and our reputation for lifelike sound quality was a direct result of this objective approach." "The Five-Squared interconnects feature a completely new design that improves on the Symmetricoax by approximating this ideal even more closely," continues Salz. "Each employs four thin, flat conductors stacked in a parallel array that is then precisely wound into a helix shape. This keeps the coupling between all the conductors extremely precise over the cable's length, effectively neutralizing the electromagnetic losses. This Delineated Neutralizing Array design, or 'DNA' for short, is a dramatic step forward in terms of overall fidelity and performance compared to our previous designs, and those of our competitors." While the helical DNA design is ideal for interconnects, it is too bulky and stiff for practical use in the larger sizes required for speaker level connections. For the five-squared series of single and bi-wire speaker cables, Salz had to adapt his stacked conductor arrangement for improved flexibility. The result is a series of twelve flat conductors stacked diagonally within a flat overall outer profile, dubbed 'Parallel DNA Design'. Each of the flat conductors is composed of a parallel group of six strands encased in high-density polyethylene. This arrangement provides for uniform conductivity across the entire audible spectrum, and minimizes all types of audible distortion for greater clarity and dymnamics than any previous speaker cable design. Wireworld's Eclipse 52 interconnects feature Teflon-insulated Ohno Continuous Cast (OCC) copper conductors with silver-clad Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) plugs. They are currently available at a suggested retail price of $449.95 for a 1-meter pair. The Eclipse 52 speaker cables feature 10-gauge OCC copper conductors with silver-clad OFC spade lug terminations, and are available in standard or bi-wire configurations at suggested retail prices of $1,149.95 and $1,199.95 per 2.5 meter pair, respectively. The Silver Eclipse 52 interconnects and speaker cables feature the same construction as the Eclipse models, but utilize OCC silver-clad copper conductors for increased resolution. The Silver Eclipse 52 interconnects are available at a suggested retail price of $699.95 for a 1 meter pair. The Silver Eclipse 52 speaker cables are available in standard or bi-wire configurations at suggested retail prices of $2,149.95 and $2,199.95 per 2.5 meter pair, respectively. The top of the line Gold Eclipse 52 cables also share the same construction as the Eclipse and Silver Eclipse lines, but employ OCC solid silver conductors for the highest possible signal fidelity. The Gold Eclipse 52 interconnects are available at a suggested retail price of $1,599.95 for a 1 meter pair. The Gold Eclipse 52 speaker cables are available in standard or bi-wire configurations at suggested retail prices of $8,149.95 and $8,199.95 per 2.5 meter pair, respectively. Wireworld, which was founded by Salz in 1992, is the premier provider of leading edge digital and analog cable technology for home audio and video. The company has an unmatched reputation for producing superior cables based on the use of objective perceptual testing, innovative patented designs, premium materials, and exceptional manufacturing quality.
