VOOM HD Networks’ RUSH HD –the nation’s first high-definition network dedicated to capturing life on the edge with the adrenaline junkies of adventure sports– continues to receive nominations and awards for its series and documentaries. Focused was nominated for a Sports Emmy® Award in the Outstanding Camera Work category. This original half-hour series follows the top athletes, in the world of extreme sports, as they head to the most exotic locations and push the limits of their sport. The nominated episode, The Perfect Season, features the world’s top skiers on the slopes in Canada’s Whistler, British Columbia. The winners of the 28th Annual Sports Emmy® Awards will be announced on April 30th, 2007. The North Face Expeditions is a series of specials that pair world-class athletes and daring expeditions with projects that provide aid in the regions in which these expeditions take place. The program is sponsored by The North Face, in association with the international development organization, Global Giving (www.globalgiving.com). Two of the series’ episodes recently received awards: - Shelter from the Storm won a special award for Best Action Sports Film at the 2007 Vail Film Festival in Vail, Colorado. The film follows four athletes as they attempt to become the first all-female team to ski the remote and seldom visited east coast of Baffin Island. While on the expedition, the athletes also give back to the local community by renovating and working at a shelter designed for women and children escaping domestic abuse. - Light of the Himalaya just received its ninth accolade, having been named a Silver Winner in the documentary category of the 28th Annual Telly Awards. The film goes high into Nepal to juxtapose an expedition team’s dual mission of summiting the highest un-scaled peak in the Himalayan range and of establishing an eye-surgery clinic in a region of Nepal with unusually high rates of cataracts. The special’s other awards come from both national and international film festivals. RUSH HD redefines the action genre both technically and creatively, giving viewers the ultimate home entertainment and edge-of-the-seat experience. Explosive, action-packed high-definition footage is shot by camera crews who follow closely behind the athletes –jumping out of helicopters, climbing up cliffs and skiing down mountains backwards. Last year alone, RUSH HD traveled to some 45 countries to follow stories from the point of view of the world’s best and most daring athletes. RUSH HD’s sister channel ULTRA HD, the high-def channel devoted to the worlds of fashion, beauty and style, also received nominations for two New York Emmy® Awards. VOOM HD Networks produces the most high-definition programming in the world. Offering twenty-four hours a day of commercial-free programming created especially to maximize the visual power and beauty of the high-definition medium, and recorded with the full force of Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, viewers are treated to unmatchable television shows.
