UK-based Streamburst announced today a new watermarking solution for the download-to-own video marketplace that will integrate its audio watermarking service with Running Marks technology licensed from Cinea, Inc., a subsidiary of Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB). The resulting solution will protect content within the digital download marketplace, beginning with Streamburst's content channels launching later this year in Europe. Together, the joint video- and audio- watermarking solution powered by Running Marks and Streamburst's technologies provides a seamless layer of content protection from source to end-user device. Forensic "marks" provide a proactive deterrent value to the digital content by removing the anonymity often associated with the downloading and sharing of digital content. The watermarks are imperceptible to the consumer's eyes and ears yet remain highly robust in the event of unauthorized redistribution. By integrating Cinea's Running Marks alongside the Streamburst technology, the joint solution deploys video and audio watermarks simultaneously, with minimally increased server power requirements and no changes to devices already deployed in the field. "Our arrangement with Cinea brings video watermarking to retail download-to-own for the first time," said David Parsons, chief executive officer of Streamburst. "The digital rights management solution provided here is in many ways superior to other solutions on the market because it offers a flexible and consumer-friendly form of content protection that is equally appealing to rights holders in light of its flexibility and robustness." "Many content owners and industry experts are increasingly appreciating the value and security that watermarking brings to the digital content marketplace," said Rob Schumann, general manager of Cinea. "We are pleased to have a leading edge company such as Streamburst choose Running Marks as their solution for video watermarking in the emerging Internet download market."
