ESOTERIC Ships D-05 D/A Converter With 32 Bit DAC And P-05 SACD/CD VRDS Transport

September 27, 2007

ESOTERIC, a division of TEAC America, is now shipping the company's new audiophile transport and D/A converter. In honor of their 20th anniversary, Esoteric introduces the P-05/D-05 components which incorporate a completely new VRDS-NEO mechanism called VMK-5, optimized for high speed rotational requirements of Super Audio CD. The new digital to analog converter model D-05, introduces the world's first 32-bit D/A converter technology. The P-05/D-05 can output native as well as up-converted digital audio signals. A highly precise internal crystal clock oscillator can act as the Master Clock Generator for both devices eliminating inter-component jitter and reducing signal path jitter. The up-convert function offers fs 88.2 kHz (x2) and fs 176.4 kHz (x4) for CD playback. DSD/1-bit 64 fs signal for Super Audio CD is transmitted natively and without up-conversion. The D-05 is the world's first D/A converter to incorporate the AK4397 Delta-Sigma DAC device from AKM Semiconductor. ESOTERIC implements this design in a dual-mono configuration. Each AK4397 processes only one channel of information. This device has 32-bit processing capability and "combines the best properties of a 1-bit and multi-bit device." PCM audio signals can be up-converted up to 176.4 kHz. PCM audio can also be converted to the full DSD standard prior to decoding. This unique system allows the listener multiple options for enjoying music depending on his or her preferences. The P-05 (MSRP $7000), and D-05 ($7000), are available now through Esoteric's dealer network of audio video specialists.
