At EHX 2007, CTL Corporation showed the latest LCD television technology offered by its Nexus Electronics division. Also, the firm introduced what it believes is an industry-leading program for the recycling of televisions, part of a company initiative to reduce overall e-waste. Nexus showed its new 40-in. LCD television set, the NX4020. Key features of this set include ATSC support to accommodate the latest HD content; HDMI technology to support the latest gaming devices and digital equipment; and a remote control with discrete codes that eliminate manual programming requirements. Since 2004, CTL (through its Retronics division) has offered fee-based recycling of Nexus televisions, CTL's computer products, and other electronic equipment through pick-up and drop-ff programs available to businesses and consumers. Now, the company is launching an initiative to spur further interest in recycling. Beginning in December, CTL will offer a free take-back coupon for Nexus televisions. The coupon, which will allow for the free recycling of one Nexus product, is available to customers who purchase the product through an Oregon retailer. Program participants need only register the product online, at www.nexuselectronics.com. Here, they will receive a coupon key that they will present to Retronics to obtain free recycling. CTL hopes to expand the recycling program in 2008. The expansion may cover certain CTL-branded products (e.g., laptops and PCs) as well as other brands of products. Additionally, the program may be extended geographically if the logistics and other factors prove it to be feasible. "We have prided ourselves on delivering products that serve the business needs of custom electronics professionals," said Erik Stromquist, executive vice president of CTL Corporation, the parent corporation of Nexus Electronics and Retronics, its e-waste recycling division. "The next step is to make our products easily recycleable. Through our take-back program we can minimize the amount of electronic waste that goes into our landfills."
