Stewart Named CEA 2008 Innovations Honoree

November 14, 2007

Stewart Filmscreen Corporation®, the industry leader in precision projection technology in the home cinema and commercial markets, has won the prestigious CEA Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Award for StarGlas, a revolutionary rear projection screen material. StarGlas is not just any screen; architects have identified it as a genuine building material. StarGlas is the world’s first precision projection screen that can be used indoors and outdoors. Its unique properties open up opportunities for visual presentations in even the most unusual places including pools, windows, floors, room dividers and video walls. The possibilities are only limited by the imagination. The image quality that StarGlas provides is stunning, even within environments where high ambient light is present. StarGlas contains a proprietary diffusion screen layer that is laminated between specially formulated glass substrates, which helps dramatically boost the amount of forward light transmission while reducing backscatter. This provides superb uniformity with extraordinary contrast. StarGlas qualifies as safety glass, which means it can be installed anywhere this type of specially rated glass is specified in the building codes. StarGlas can sit directly on the ground surface, where ordinary glass must be placed at least 1500mm above the floor, making it possible to install actual floor to ceiling video walls in any environment. Innovations Design and Engineering Award As a widely renowned consumer technology awards program that began in 1989, the Innovations Design and Engineering Awards recognize achievements in product design and engineering. Sponsored by CEA, the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the voice of industrial design, is committed to advancing the profession through education, information, community, and advocacy. The Innovations entries are judged based on the following criteria: - Engineering qualities of the product, including technical specifications and materials used - The product’s intended use/function and user value - Aesthetic and design qualities (using visuals provided) - Unique and novel features - Contributions to consumers’ quality of life - Impact on the manufacturer’s business model Stewart StarGlas will be displayed at the 2008 International CES – Booth# 21458 South 1, which runs January 7-10, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
