THX Debuts Amazing Life, New Animated Trailer For THX Certified Cinemas

November 29, 2007

THX is kicking off the holiday shopping and movie-going season with the release of its newest trailer for THX Certified Cinemas. Amazing Life is the latest in a series of cinematic trailers to feature the THX Deep Note™ audio mark and state-of-the-art visual effects and animation. THX will debut its Amazing Life trailer this holiday season. Amazing Life focuses on photo-realistic organisms of various shapes, sizes and colors, growing from a metallic surface. These creatures appear organic in nature, yet foreign to anything on Earth. As the story unfolds, the organisms grow to cover the surface of the metal, with each one communicating through their own unique sound. These sounds build upon each other, becoming more harmonious, and eventually culminate into the THX Deep Note crescendo. A final panning shot reveals the metallic surface to be the THX logo covered by these vibrant, living, musical creatures. "THX trailers have wowed movie going audiences for more than two decades and have become synonymous with great entertainment experiences," said Ed Rice, director of marketing at THX. "The storyline for Amazing Life provided us a fun and entertaining way to demonstrate the power and performance of a THX Certified Cinema's surround sound and projection system, while at the same time, getting audiences excited for the feature presentation." THX trailers have been produced by some of the world's renowned animation, visual effects and sound design teams. In the 1990s, THX teamed with artists from the Pixar Animation Studios to create the robot character, TEX, who has since gone on to star in a number of fan favorite trailers. Recent THX trailers have featured characters from popular feature films, including Shrek and The Simpsons. For Amazing Life, THX turned to veteran composer, Marco d'Ambrosio, to design the more than 160 sound tracks featuring voices of "Speaker Flowers," "Helicopter Plants" and other unique organisms. The final mix was completed at Lucasfilm's Skywalker Sound under the direction of award-winning re-recording mixer, Gary Rizzo. The visual effects were led by Eyestorm Productions, with contribution from Joseph Minadeo. Eyestorm Productions is a Venice Beach production and creative production company founded by former Lucasfilm artists, Kyle Ruddick and Michael Klima.
