Pulse~LINK Launches CWave UWB HDMI-Over-Coax And Wireless HDMI Home Theater Solutions

[The following is a release from Pulse~LINK]

January 2, 2008

Ultra Wideband (UWB) semiconductor pioneer and performance leader, Pulse~LINK Inc., announced today that its CWaveŽ HDMI-Over-Coax and Wireless HDMI production ready reference designs are now available for CE device manufacturers. These groundbreaking solutions enable real-time high definition audio and video distribution throughout the home with a guaranteed Quality-of-Service (QoS) for the industry's first true "Digital Home Cinema" experience. The CWaveŽ UWB HDMI-Over-Coax and Wireless HDMI transmit and receive units are low cost, small form factor, production ready reference designs enabling OEM customers quick market entry. CWave HDMI products offer real-time visually lossless wired and wireless streaming of high quality audio and video content between entertainment source devices and HDTV displays. Video data is encoded using the JPEG2000 video codec, the same codec used by movie theaters for "Digital Cinema," providing a secure high definition home theater experience. "HDMI is the preferred direct link between HDTVs and digital sources such as Blu-ray and HD DVD players, video game consoles, and set-top boxes used by cable, satellite and IPTV gateways," states John Santhoff, Pulse~LINK Founder and CTO. "Streaming HD content around the home presents the greatest technical challenges for home networking and exposes bandwidth and Quality-of-Service limitations. CWave provides a `No New Wires' solution- extending the reach of HDMI from room-to-room over existing coax cabling and wirelessly connecting devices within each room using the same chip." CWaveŽ UWB HDMI-Over-Coax (PL3305 RDK): HDMI has long been recognized for its high quality transport and content protection mechanisms but is limited to single room fixed point-to-point applications. Pulse~LINK's CWaveŽ UWB HDMI-Over-Coax innovation extends this reach over existing coax cabling, including splitters, allowing consumers to access high-bandwidth HD content from entertainment source devices in one room and display it in any other room in the house. CWaveŽ UWB Wireless HDMI (PL3304 RDK): Pulse~LINK's CWaveŽ UWB Wireless HDMI solution reduces the "rat's nest" of connector wires behind entertainment systems, enabling clean installation of wall-mounted flat-panel displays anywhere in the room. The HDMI extender enables longer-range, secure wireless connectivity between the HDTV display and multiple entertainment source devices such as video game consoles, DVRs, Blu-ray DVD and HD DVD players. Pulse~LINK is the only semiconductor company to deliver actual production silicon with Gigabit data rates for both wired and wireless HD video distribution. A long time recognized innovator of UWB technology, Pulse~LINK invented the use of Ultra Wideband over coax systems in 2002 and was the first to patent and demonstrate this revolutionizing technology for streaming HD content throughout the home. The use of UWB-Over-Coax for room-to-room HDMI connectivity is an entirely new concept developed by Pulse~LINK. Pulse~LINK was also the first company to demonstrate Wireless HDMI, back in 2005 with Analog Devices, and continues to set the performance bar for high data rate wireless connectivity. Additional CWaveŽ whole-home HD networking products include CWaveŽ UWB Ethernet-Over-Coax and CWaveŽ UWB 1394-Over-Coax solutions, offering customers a choice in high-speed HD content distribution. All four "flavors" of the CWave HD home networking technology will be showcased at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 7-10, in the Pulse~LINK booth (South Hall 2- #25559) and various partner locations throughout the show floor.
