The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced that Kevin Martin, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will be featured in the Industry Insider Series as part of the 2008 International CES®. Produced by CEA, the 2008 International CES is the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, and returns to Las Vegas January 7-10, 2008. FCC Chairman Martin will join Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, for a one-on-one discussion of issues vital to every segment of the consumer technology industry, including the digital television (DTV) transition, the upcoming 700 MHz spectrum auction and broadband deployment. Martin’s session is slated for 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), North Hall N255-257. In addition, the 2008 International CES will, for the first time ever, welcome all five FCC commissioners, including Martin and commissioners Michael J. Copps, Jonathan S. Adelstein, Deborah Taylor Tate and Robert McDowell. “We welcome all five FCC commissioners and are thrilled to have Chairman Martin back to the International CES as an Industry Insider, and look forward to hearing his views on the upcoming DTV transition and other key issues facing our industry,” said Shapiro. “Chairman Martin’s support of industry competition and the furthering of technology innovation provides every American with greater access to consumer technology products and services.” Chairman Martin was nominated by President Bush and was sworn in on July 3, 2001. He was designated chairman on March 18, 2005. Chairman Martin was re-nominated for a second term as commissioner and chairman by President Bush on April 25, 2006, and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 16, 2006. Before joining the FCC, Chairman Martin was a special assistant to the President for Economic Policy.
