Polk SC-ipr Series Loudspeakers Offer High-End Output, Advanced IP-Compatible Technology

SC85-ipr and SC80-ipr Herald New Era of IP-Ready Speakers [The following is a release from Polk Audio]

January 7, 2008

Polk Audio will soon ship the SC85-ipr (MSRP $214.95 each) and SC80-ipr (MSRP 174.95 each), bringing IP (Internet Protocol) potential to legacy installations at the flip of a rocker switch. The SC85-ipr is a direct replacement for Polk's popular SC85 and the SC80-ipr replaces the SC80—at no increase in price. The SC-ipr loudspeakers can be installed into conventional systems via speaker cabling connected to a central amplifier. However, if the system is upgraded to a NetStreams® IP-based multiroom system, the installer can connect the SC-ipr models to a local digital amplifier via Euro-style (DIN) inputs, with the internal rocker switch to IP. The SC-ipr loudspeakers are then bi-amplified and DSP-enhanced, with improved phase and frequency response, as well as lower distortion, deeper bass, improved dynamic range, and higher SPL (Sound Pressure Level). The SC85-ipr is a rectangular two-way in-wall loudspeaker employing an 8" Dynamic Balance™ composite polymer driver and a 1" aimable silk dome tweeter with a Neodymium magnet. The SC80-ipr employs the same drivers in a round in-ceiling configuration. "There’s no doubt that IP technology is the wave of the future," said Polk Audio Line Manager Al Baron. "With the market still learning about the advantages of IP, we designed our new SC85-ipr and SC80-ipr models to be top performers in any configuration, though they really shine when used as part of NetStreams-based IP system.” Polk’s SC-ipr loudspeakers will ship later this month, and will be available through custom installation specialists and traditional Polk Audio dealers.
