Polk Audio today announced that the RM 2008 series of home theater satellite/subwoofer speaker systems is now shipping to its dealer network. The long anticipated RM 2008 update to Polk's successful RM series of offers consumers a wide array of options in performance and price. "The RM 2008 series delivers maximum versatility from an advanced selection of satellite speakers and subwoofers," said Al Baron, Polk Audio's Product Line Manager. "Every RM system offers a discrete, distinct solution for consumers who prefer compact speakers, but without sacrificing high-end output. End-users can add the RM speakers they need to create 7.1 channel systems or fill even the most asymmetrical media rooms with superb sound.” Leading the new lineup is the RM 705 system (MSRP $599.95), consisting of a six piece 5.1 channel speaker/sub array that mates a 100W powered subwoofer with an 8" downfiring Dynamic Composite driver to four matched RM7 satellites and a RM7C center channel. The RM7 and RM7C mate a 2½" Dynamic Composite mid-woofer (two, in the RM7C) to a ½" tweeter in a wedge-shaped injection-molded mineral-filled polypropylene cabinet. Wall-mounts and a center channel cradle are included. (The RM7 and RM 7C are also available individually at the MSRPs of $99.95 for the RM7 satellite and $119.95 for the RM 7C center channel.) For situations where the consumer already has a subwoofer, the four satellites and center channel are available in the five-piece RM75 system (MSRP $479.95). An alternative to the RM 705 system is the five-piece RM85 (MSRP $599.95), which replaces the surround channels with Polk's Wide Angle Array RM8 satellites (available separately for MSRP $149.95 each) and the center channel with an RM8C (also available separately for $149.95). The RM8 features a bi-directional design, employing two 2 ½" Dynamic Composite mid-woofer drivers, one on each of the cabinet's front facets, available in matched L & R pairs. A superior ¾" silk dome tweeter (common to the RM8 and RM8C) delivers detailed, yet controlled, high frequency extension. The consumer can then choose among Polk's line of renowned subwoofers to complete the system. Alternatively, the RM95 system (MSRP $699.95) is a five-piece upgrade that matches Wide Angle Array RM8 L & R speakers to the surrounds in the RM85.
