DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group has announced that it will lend its full support for Blu-ray Disc (BD) and is developing a multi-faceted campaign featuring consumer education, retail training and public relations programs. The DEG, the industry’s premiere organization with representatives that encompass leading entertainment, consumer electronics and IT companies, is credited with helping to make DVD the most successful entertainment format in history. The group’s activities now encompass virtually every consumer entertainment platform, including both physical and digital media. The DEG aims to provide a collaborative, unified marketing effort for Blu-ray Disc as it did for DVD. With this level of support, the DEG is poised to generate increased awareness and promote BD’s many benefits in a unified and consistent voice. "Given our success in promoting new entertainment formats, the DEG is the logical association to underscore the benefits of Blu-ray Disc to consumers, retail and the media,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman, DEG and President, Walt Disney Studios Worldwide Home Entertainment. “As the DEG was the unified front for the support of DVD, we will also be leading the promotion of high definition packaged media.” The DEG will serve as the primary source of information for Blu-ray Disc, including consumer education, hardware/software introductions, media relations as well as a central repository for data. Blu-ray Disc maximizes the HDTV experience by delivering the highest quality entertainment available today. BD players are backwards compatible with DVD and incorporate a variety of new interactive features that have been specifically designed for the emerging multi-media market. The DEG’s Blu-ray Disc campaign will encourage consumers to upgrade to Blu-ray Disc hardware and software to accompany their HDTVs.
