Atlantic Technology Launches Flagship THX Ultra2 In-Wall Speaker

[The following is a release from Atlantic Technology]

April 15, 2008

After eight years as one of the industry's most successful THX-Certified in-wall loudspeakers, Atlantic Technology has replaced its flagship IWTS-20 LCR with a brand new model, the IWTS-30 LCR THX Ultra2 Certified in-wall loudspeaker. The Atlantic Technology IWTS-30 LCR speakers are designed for use as the left, right, and center front channels in a state-of-the-art home theater system, and they deliver all the sonic accuracy and performance the world had come to expect from products earning the prestigious THX Ultra2 Certification. A rotating and pivoting midrange-tweeter assembly ensures optimal performance regardless of whether the enclosure is mounted horizontally or vertically, and it uses the company's exclusive Low Resonance Tweeter (LRT™) for exceptional off-axis listening. The speakers are designed for easy and aesthetically pleasing installation, and an optional sealed rear enclosure provides added acoustic isolation. "The in-wall 20 LCR has been our flagship for nearly a decade now," said Atlantic Technology CEO, Peter Tribeman. "but with advances we've made in driver and crossover technology, and improved installation flexibility, we finally felt we could deliver a product that beat the king of the mountain. The IWTS-30 LCR is flat-out the best sounding in-wall we've ever made, and it makes no apologies for being an in-wall. We know of no other architectural solutions that deliver this kind of performance and flexibility at anywhere near this price point." Atlantic Technology's IWTS-30LCR is a three-way design with a single 8-inch GLH (Graphite Loaded Homopolymer) woofer, two 3-1/2-inch GLH midrange drivers and a 1-inch Low Resonance Tweeter (LRT™). The midrange drivers and tweeter are arranged in a vertical M-T-M configuration, and are mounted in a separate sealed enclosure that can be rotated 90-degrees to maintain the critical vertical orientation if the speaker is mounted horizontally. Additionally, the M-T-M assembly can be tilted up to 8 degrees toward the listening position to compensate for less-than-ideal positioning above, below, or to the sides of the listener for precise imaging and localization in nearly any installation. The midrange drivers are a proprietary Atlantic Technology design, employing an oversized 1-inch voice coil allowing it to handle very high levels of power while maintaining precise control and extremely low distortion. The company's acclaimed LRT™ tweeter uses a damped rear chamber and improved heatsinking that allows it to handle a crossover point that is a full octave lower than conventional designs. This leads to wider and more linear dispersion characteristics throughout the listening area, not just at the 'sweet spot' in the center of the soundfield. For most installations, Atlantic Technology recommends installing the IWTS-30 LCR with the optional matched back box, which ensures ideal enclosure volume for optimal woofer response, and minimizes bleed-through of sound to adjacent rooms. For simplified installation, the frames, grille, and cabinet are separate pieces, making it simple to install and paint the frames and grilles first, adding the speaker once finishing is complete. It uses the same grill/frame assembly and New Construction brackets as the company's IWCB-626 and IWCB-727 in-wall speakers, greatly streamlining the timing for rough-in/painting as well as simplifying inventory maintenance for custom installers. The IWTS-30 LCR also includes a trio of acoustic controls to allow installers to tailor performance to the listening room. The first of these is a High Frequency Energy switch to adjust tweeter level for rooms that are acoustically bright or dull. Secondly, the Location toggle switch raises or lowers the entire mid-treble band to optimize performance depending on whether or not the speaker is mounted behind a perforated video screen. The final acoustic control is a Boundary Compensation switch, which can be used to adjust the lower-midrange output to compensate for the sound colorations that occur when the speaker is placed too near a ceiling or side wall. The Atlantic Technology IWTS-30 LCR will be available in May. It will have a suggested retail price $1,250 each for the speaker and $75 for the separate GFR-626 Grille/Frame assembly. The optional back box enclosure has a suggested retail price of $175 each. From its inception in 1989, Atlantic Technology's mission has been to produce home entertainment products that exemplify the very best in both performance and value.
